Designed to be sited within the corner of a secluded field, with mature hedgerows and a passing watercourse, the design of this dwelling was to offer a very open plan interior, whilst adhering to the requirements of the rural design guide for planning purposes externally. From the main entrance this house opens up to reveal a dining, living and kitchen space immediately to the user. Off this large, shared space are located more private living and study spaces. The stairway and open / bridge link landing bring an unexpected contemporary styling, which is not immediately obvious from the external appearance. This open plan / double height space design has resulted in a very light filled, welcoming nature to the dwelling – yet, the user may still avail of the privacy from other rooms designed into the plan. Interaction with external spaces and sun path was also a major influence on this dwelling design.
